Well, this happened a couple weeks ago but of course my lazy typist humother is just posting it now. Le sigh...

But it wuz SUPER pawsome! We met up wif lotsa shibas! And do lotsa zoomies! Weeee!!

We also had another purpose for this meet up. Another Shiba named Raiden and I did not get off to a good start a few months ago. At our first meet, we were both intact males and very alpha and dominant. Humans made a bad mistake by introducing us for the first time in my home, and I got a little mean. Well, a lot mean. Long story short, we did NOT get along. At all.

So we let the dust settle, and humans had both of us neutered. And we were hoping for a better round 2. Humom was reaaaaaaallyyyyyy nervous and expecting the worst. But when we approached each other, it was all forgotten and nuffin but play time and zoomies ahead of us! All humans were so relieved =)

NE Shibapalooza 2012 Date is Set!!

Hi Everyone!

Knox’s humom here again. I’m happy to say we finally have a date set for NE Shibapalooza! We have decided to make it the weekend of May 5-6. The actual meet up will be on Sunday the 6th at Crate Escape in Belmont, MA. But I am thinking maybe we could do a pre meet up Shiba picnic at a park or fenced in play area if there’s enough people interested.

Now the fun part begins! Spread the word to as many Shiba owners & lovers as you can! Share share share!

North East Shibapalooza 2012!

North East Shibapalooza 2012

Hello all!

Knox's humom here. We have exciting new updates about North East Shibapaloozameetup. A lot of the people attending are #twibas but we want to extend the invite to allshibas and shiba owners/lovers! So please tell everyone you know!

Where:

We have selected the place for our meet up. It's called Crate Escape in Belmont, MA. (http://www.crate-escape.com/) It is all fenced in and has lots of room for the sheebs to run around and even a large fence divider INCASE we need to separate a dog/dogs. We will have the place to ourselves for 2-3 hours. There will be food and drinks for the humans and obviously water and noms for the sheebs. There will be a doggy door giving access to an outdoor area that is also fenced in! So hopefully the weather will be wonderful!
I have attached a few photos just to give you a slight idea of the area (outdoor+indoor)

When:
Right now we are feeling out all attendees for a specific date. We are deciding between 3 weekends: 4/28-29, 5/5-6, and 5/12-13. If you are not on the email list yet and are interested in attending PLEASE email me and tell me what weekend(s) work/don't work for you and I will try to keep everyone's schedule in mind to choose the best date. The more the merrier so I will accommodate as best as possible!

I also ran into another Shiba that wuz mentioned in another post of mine. Her name is Ichi and she's a 10 year old Shiba girl. Very pretty and dainty. She doesn't like to play as much but she's a good observer! We ran into her and a few other dogs and they were kind enough to invite us over to their home for a playdate!

Learning about the rainbow bridge...

I have a furiend named Curtis. Mommy told me he crossed the rainbow bridge last week. I iz sad. I dunno what the rainbow bridge is but I don't get to see him anymore. I will miss running up to you and jumping in your face and making you run in circles to escape my hyper puppy ways. You were a good furiend. I wuv you and will see you again someday!

The stitches are finally out and the cone is off! I used my Shiba mind control to make sure we made this weekend count. It was my first weekend back in the game and it wuz PAWSOME! I went to the dog park and dog store on Saturday and we went to a nice beach in Gloucester on Sunday.

Humans were really nervous about this weekend. Incase you havent heard (most of it iz lies anyway)..but in the past, I was accused of mounting and marking other dogs at the dog parks and beginning to act really dominant. I even used to try to mark places at the doggy stores and da vet. The marking of other dogs wuz rly bad. I don't know what came over me then. But this weekend it was all about DA FUNZ! I could care less about making sure I was the boss. I didn't mark or mount ONE SINGLE THING! I just ran around (yes, off leash...I iz a fake shiba) playing and chasing other dogs. My humans were super happy and gave me extra noms cuz of it!

Saturday wuz the first day back and we took a nice long walk to the doggy store then all the way to the doggy park. Although humans were stoked cuz it was sucessful, they weren't gunna get their hopes up just yet.

Come on MOM! I don't wanna stop to take pix! Let's GOOO!

But when we went for round 2 on Sunday, they were SUPER STOKED! As long as I getz extra play time and extra noms...It'z all gravey! Plus I LOVE the beach!

N is for NEUTER.

Sorry, that sounds kind of crude. But as crude as it is, we (the humans) had no problems bidding farewell to those little tiny things that made our cute little pup turn into a crazy man! Knox is finally neutered!

In 1 month, Knox has picked up "marking" what was cute in the beginning has turned into a huge and embarrassing issue that clearly needs to be addressed and worked on. He has begun marking other dogs, and even has marked areas in dogs stores, other homes with other dogs living there, and even the vet. NOT OKAY. We all have our fingers crossed that neutering itself will fix this problem. If not, we have a serious problem on our hands. Obviously Knox is in his recovery stage so no rough play, and NO play dates. We don't even let him go up or down the stairs. He has to wear the "cone of shame" almost all day and he has a sedative the vet gave us to administer the next week if he gets too rowdy.

I'm hoping and praying that this post has positive updates. He LOVES to play with other dogs, but it seems his dominance has gotten the best of him =(

Happy Halloween! ...Or not.

...wait....so Halloween means the humans get to dress me up in really itchy and uncomfortable clothing?

I am not amused...

I was "Hugh Hefner- the ladies man" with my bathrobe and pipe. Humans said it was fitting because I love the ladies. Whatever. Still not reason enough to dress me like a doll. HUFF.

But don't worry. I got my revenge. When they dress me, i like to stiffen up and pretend like I can't bend any limbs. I also refuse to do any tricks. BOYCOTT!!

But....I guess the benefit was, the ladies really did gravitate towards me.

What can I say? I'm a ladies' dog.

Meeting Charlie

Charlie is one of humom's new DW Clients. He's a 1.5 Y/O pup who was adopted from The Humane Society just a few weeks ago. He's a sweet and happy boy, although he's sometimes a scardy cat. But that's okay, he's getting used to his new life. Humom brings Charlie over to our house so we can play and wrestle. We have lots of fun. We like to beat each other up and chase each other until we're pooped.

Knox showed us a new "trick" he can do now after the introduction. He started mounting poor Charlie. Fortunately, Charlie didn't seem to mind (too much). But this is new with Knox. He only seems to do it with Charlie, and one other dog he met. But still, it seems our little puppy is growing into a dominant man pup. (We have scheduled his neutering a tad early- he has been maturing quicker than most since he was a wee pup)

After a couple weeks of playing together, it seems Charlie has gained more confidence, though. He is not letting Knox mount as much, and he is realizing his own strength and really can flip Knox on his back quick. Then of course my drama king whales and screams. Once the tables have turned, it's a whole different story. Figures.

Puppy Teeth Farewell!

HOORAY! It's finally here! The puppy teeth are falling out! It all started last week with a loose tooth and a week later, he has lost at least 7, probably more but he seems to be swallowing them or losing them during walks or play time with other dogs. But all 4 sharp canines are GONE! See ya! Adios! Ciao!

Although I do feel slightly guilty because poor Knoxy is a tad confused about what's going on. He can't pick up his big orange ball anymore. And I can tell he's a little sore. So we've been giving him cold treats and baby-ing him extra amounts =)

But Amos and I are quite pleased since just a month or so ago we were going nuts with the puppy teeth.

Next stop..neutering. 2 weeks from Friday. I'm very nervous about this. I'm hoping Knox will not be traumatized by this. But it probably needs to be done earlier rather than later. He's quite the alpha male. And he has just begun mounting other dogs. Yuck.

BEACH DAYZ WITH KAIJU!

Last Sunday was GUREAT. The humans and I played LOTZ and then the best part of the whole day was I had my first BEACH DAY! I had never been to the beach before and what better way to do it than with another Shiba?

We met up with Kaiju and his humans at Plum Island. Kaiju is a sweet boy who lives with his humans in Boston (check out Kaiju's blog for more amazing pics of this day). The humans have been following Kaiju's journey for a while, even before I came about. So this day was very anticipated! Naturally, Kaiju and I became buds very quickly. That's because we're shibas and we're pawsome. We played and played and played until the sun was almost down.

The Humans and I were very glad to finally meet Kaiju and his humans and can't wait to have a play date again! Hopefully the next time we will go down to Boston and play in Kaiju's hood!

My new ha-bee-tat

It's been a while since my last post. That's cuz pawrents and I moved. I wuz kinda scared at first cuz there wuz lots of loud noises but I'm really starting to like it here. I even have my own backyard.

But I am, like always, keeping things interesting. I don't like to pee in my backyard. That's GROSS. why would I pee and poop where I play? COME ON. Instead, i like to hold my pee until a walk :) They don't like it.

I love to lay out and catch some rays, though...

My other new favorite past time includes stalking anyone who dare come near my house. I'll sit at this window for hours.

And humom snapped this as she pulled up to the house. I was awaiting her arrival...

So basically I just hang around the house n' stuff. Lots of new places to hang.

My first dog park experience!

Well, not really but OMG the humans and I met another Shiba today!!!!!!!!! SO STOKED. Her name is Ichi and she's 10 years old. She's a pretty lady, but a little too old for me...

Yesterday was Laborz Day and also the day after mom's birthday so we had a great day of walking around downtown. We couldn't walk 10 feet without someone stopping to say how beautiful I was and asking if they could pet me. It was really hot and I didn't really want to walk around, so I decided to plop myself down and refuse to walk. My humans really liked that.

Later that day, we drove up to Kittery, ME. We thought we wuz goin to a beach but it turns out we ended up here:

Mom busted out this weird creature the other day, so I had to alarm her that she wuz in great danger. I don't know what it wuz but it looks dangerous.

But then after I barked at it for a while, mom made me be quietz and tried to show me it wasn't as bad as I thought it wuz. Then she forced me to do this:

Bite your tongue

Yesterday I bit my tongue at Puppy K class. And there were little blood droplets on the floor and on the puppies I was playing with. I feltz kinda bad cuz one pup had a pretty white coat. I didn't even realize what happened until mom and dad ran me into the bathroom. THEY MADE ME MISS PLAY TIME! ugh. I may be the smallest pup in the class but now I've shown them all my SUPER SHIBA PUPPY POWERS. nothings gets in the way of me havin da funz! Except when the humans pick me up and take me away *grunt*

Well, in the past 2 and a half weeks I've not only learned a lot MORE about Shibas, but also now remember what it's like to have a puppy. Everything is new for little Knox and sometimes he handles new things well, and sometimes not. Such an example would be this fine rainy morning. Knox and I were out for a walk and came across big scary garbage trucks. Knox was so scared he pulled on his leash and dashed home. Usually I'M the one pulling him for walks. And ever since then the poor thing has been randomly whining and just seems really nervous. I feel terrible =(

Shibas are a REALLY mouthy breed. I remember with my dogs in the past, as puppies they were MONSTERS when it came to biting. Knox seems to be going down the same path. But he is also biting faces, legs, clothes, etc. The face biting really scares me and I'm hoping that 1: It will eventually go away after this puppy phase is over; and 2: How we're handling it is correct. He gets into these modes once in a while when he's so hyper and overstimulated he is SO mouthy and biting us non stop. We try to either crate him, while giving him plenty of toys and/or we just walk away into another room where he can't get to.

I just want to pet him and kiss him and he is NOT having that when he's in that "mode".

I'm starting to think he doesn't have a UTI. The peeing in the house has stopped. But the occasional trips into the living room to let him explore is also over (This is where he had most of his accidents- more recently, the accident right on our brand new couch!) Ever since we blocked him off completely he has been fine with no accidents (knock on wood)

We are doing our best with socializing him as much as possible. He likes meeting new dogs so much which makes me happy and I hope it stays this way. He also likes meeting new people, although now he gets so excited when people pet him to say hello, he usually chews on their hands. A tad embarrassing but I think most people and dogs are forgiving of that because he IS a puppy still.

Our first Puppy K class is tonight and we're really looking forward to it and can't wait to see all the puppies interact!

And check out the cool seat belt harness we got for him! He feels so-so about this. But I say tough nuggies, it keeps him safe and us safe.

Thanks to my buddy Kaiju and his mom, we found this great app that lets mom + dad check on me when they're far away from me at that stupid "work" thing. It's called iCam and they can leave a webcam on me and can check on me through their phonez and watch me sleeeeeep. Mom says it makes her breathe easier. I dunno what that means...

I made a boo boo twice today...i peedz inside the house =( Mom and dad are worried I might have something called a UTI so they keep trying to hold a stupid cup underneath me while I go to grab muh peez. GROSS GROSS GROSS. They tell me the vet needs it but I don't care. I need MY privacy.

I've had a busy weekend. Meeting new dogs, I even met another puppy! I barked at him though, he kept sniffin' my butt! Gross.

Also, mom tells me she's gunna buy me a doggy seatbelt cuz I like to sit on shoulders during car ridez! WHATZ THE BIG DEAL?

But besides that, I like muh new home. It'z cozy and my mom and dad really like me a lot and always play fun games with me. I already know how to SIT and LAY DOWN. I'm a GENIUZ.

WHATTSUP. My name is Knox. I'm super cute and I totally know it.

I like playing, running around like a crazy dog, and i super like humans. they're really nice and give me TREETZ. yum. Oh and I also LOVE attacking my dog bed.

My mom and dad got me yesterday and brought me to my new home. I waz kinda scared but it'z cool now. Except they put a bunch of GATES around the whole house so I don't have full access to MY house. HOW RUDE.

I met a few other dogs yesterday. One waz wicked big and kinda scary so I hid under my moms legs or under a chair. He might step on my pretty paws....

Even in one week you can see their growth and changes in personality. I have a feeling one of the red boys is ours, the black and tan boy is very cute and social, but kind of keeps to himself more so than the others. But nonetheless, we love them all.

Well, atleast they'll know who we support. Just wait until hockey season kicks up again. I'm not sure yellow is a Shiba's color. But red works great!

We're getting closer and closer to bringing him home. Hoping for another visit at the end of this week, it's exciting to see each little personality develop and witness their "Shiba ways".

We signed Sir Knox up for Puppy Kindergarten yesterday! He won't be attending until August but his spot will be held for now. Taking all precautions to make sure he's a well rounded, well behaved Shiba =)

Puppy Pie!

Got a wonderful surprise in my email yesterday, an updated picture of the pups. People keep asking if we know which one is our Knox, and we probably won't know until closer to 5-7 weeks. But it's still so wonderful to see them all grow. I am glad I am able to track his journey and watch him grow from the very beginnings, like this.

We are still getting everything ready. Now that we have things like toys, crate, etc...the more serious stuff comes into play such as indoor and outdoor gates, and fake grass. Currently our outdoor "area" is nothing but pavement and stones, we are hoping to make an area to lay down some fake grass to give Knox the ability to feel "comfy" when he's outdoors and continue getting used to going to the bathroom on grassy areas. He deserves the best! And the best he shall get. But finding this fake grass that's not breaking our banks seems to be harder than one would hope. Typical. >=(

Unfortunately, with mine, amos, and the breeder's schedules we probably won't find a good time to meet the puppies until the end of this month. But it is good in a way, they will be a little older and much more interactive than they are now. It would be nice to see them at this stage, but it is what it is! I'll settle for wonderful pictures =)

Knox's Crate Arrived!

So it seems my posts will be petty posts until our boy is here, but i just can't help it! Every little part of this makes it more real that he's coming!

Buuuuut!

His crate was delivered yesterday as was our brand new living room furniture. Big day! =) We set up the crate tonight. I assumed it was a "tools" kind of project but it actually was a matter of just clipping each corner together. Fairly simple! We'll see if it withstands the brains of a Shiba. My boyfriend and I have a sneaking suspicion Knox will eventually figure out how to get himself out of the crate...but who knows.

Let The Nesting Begin!

Today we started to get some stuff for Knox! We got a big fluffy pillow bed, a baby gate for the kitchen, some toys, and some safety locks for cabinets, and brushes. I'm SO glad we can finally get to plan for him!

We spoke to the breeder today to 100% confirm one of those boys is ours. And also might schedule our first visit next weekend!

Puppy Pictures!!

So one of these 3 boys will most likely be our little Knox!! They're so teeny tiny right now. I'm excited and interested in seeing how each of their little personalities develops.

They're all less than a day old in this pic. So precious =)

I'm already in love and I don't even know which one is ours yet.

Now that we know they are here, it's almost just as hard to wait another 8 weeks until we take our Knox home.

THE PUPPIES ARE HERE!

"Hi Amanda and Amos,

We have babies! Born last night. 2 red boys, 1 black boy, 1 red girl and 1 black girl. They all look great! I'm quite happy!

I'll be posting pictures and details (and making the birth announcement) on the website tonight or tomorrow, but I thought you'd want to know right away.

And there it is! After all of this waiting, it looks like our little boy is here. We aren't quite sure which boy is our Knox (the name we picked out) but we are hoping for the black & tan. But really, we will love and cherish this pup no matter what it looks like!

I'm so happy to finally post a happy post! Now we wait for them to grow a little bit more so we can take him home and love the crap out of him for years to come.

I will post pictures as soon as I get them. And hopefully within a few weeks I'll be able to make a visit.

Update 5/9/11

Hello!

It's been a while since my last post. So right now we are still in the "waiting" period which seems to be a constant lately. We met with a second breeder and got a good feeling about her! She is really sweet, and seems to really think we'd be a great fit for a puppy. But right now, she only has 1 dog pregnant and those puppies won't be on the ground until around Memorial Day. There are a few people a head of us but it seems most of them want females, we are the only ones who really want a male pup.

So once again, we wait! we wait, and wait, and hope, and hope. I'm just trying to not think about it because I really don't want to be let down again. I won't know anything until those pups are here! So send good vibes!

So since my last post, our potential breeder originally thought she would have a puppy to offer us, both pregnant dogs had their liters, but one had to have an emergency c-section to get her 2 last pups out, and within that time, unfortunately one of the puppies didn't make it. And that puppy was supposed to be for us. I'm pretty heartbroken, but on a semi-lighter note, there is another breeder who is expecting puppies. She's about 2 months behind the previous breeder, but if she can offer us a puppy definitely, it's worth the wait. We will be driving up to meet her tomorrow. I am hoping this ends more positively than I'm seeing it play out in my head currently.

I feel like we are ready to take this next step but am not able to actual obtain this dog we want. What drives me the most insane is I tend to need to be in control of everything in my life, and this is not something I can control at all.

So right now, we're still hoping and wanting. And hoping the meet and greet of this new breeder will be a good and positive experience.

Hello! My name is Amanda. My boyfriend Amos and I live in Massachusetts in a lovely town. We have been together for about a year and a half and are very much in love. It was an instant connection and are just a great fit. I have always been a dog lover since a child. I've had 4 dogs of my own in my life, and have been without a pet for quite some time due to living situations that didn't permit dogs. Amos and I finally live in a wonderful home in a wonderful town and felt we were ready to make that addition to our home that I so desperately wanted! Originally, I was worried since Amos wasn't much of a huge LOVER as I. He liked them but has never had the honor of having and loving one. Long story short, he changed his mind awfully quick =)

We were trying to find the right breed for us. I did a ton of research and asked friends about breeds they had. A good friend of mine had a Shiba Inu/Bull Dog pup whom I LOVED! I asked her about her breeder and she told me the breeder didn't really do that mix often, but did breed pure bred shibas. I immediately looked into it.

So throughout my journey of research I've come to find out a lot about this breed. There are some good and some not so good. Such as

THE GOOD:

These are some of the good, of course there's so much more...

Small in size (avg. male gets to about 23-25 pounds)
Good for apartments because they are very adaptable to their environment
Light grooming, they have large shedding sessions 2 times a year (sometimes referred to as "blowing the coat")
Independent and clean. Shibas do not like to mess where they eat and sleep so potty training can be done quickly and efficiently
Smart! They love a challenge.
If socialized correctly as a puppy, is a GREAT family dog and loyal companion

THE BAD:

Shibas are known to be head strong. If not trained correctly, they will try to rule the house and consider them the "pack leader"
Can be a little weary of strangers
Although it's in the "Good" category as well: Independent. Shibas tend to be "cat like"

But with the good and the bad, Amos and I are sure this is the breed for us.

After much research and after speaking to a few breeders and meeting one we really liked, we are fairly sure we've found our breeder. When we met her a few weeks ago she had 2 pregnant females. One female has given birth and our breeder is awaiting the arrival of the second litter any day now. We are looking for a male. The first litter already on the ground was 3 females so we are hoping the next litter will bring some boys!

Our search hasn't been as smooth as I had hoped. But it seems after months and months of wanting and waiting, in the next week we should know 100% if our selected breeder will have the exact dog we so desperately want.
